Several inmates engaged in a fight at Utah State Prison on Tuesday night, resulting in critical injuries to two individuals who were taken to a nearby hospital. The altercation occurred in the "Bear One" housing facility, with six people involved. It is uncertain whether all of them were inmates or if any correction officers intervened to stop the fight. According to a spokesperson from the Utah Department of Corrections, both individuals' injuries were severe, and one of them had to be airlifted by helicopter for treatment. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the incident, but the department suspects that a homemade weapon may have been used. The "Bear" unit, which was built last year, houses male inmates who are eligible for work, education, and program opportunities.
