Walker Kessler was surprised by his own performance when he blocked Phoenix's Devin Booker during a game. Although he waited for a goaltending call, he realized that he had legitimately blocked the shot. Kessler had seven blocks during Utah's loss to Phoenix, and he was surprised by some of them. Opponents have been caught off guard by Kessler's defensive skills and often comment on how quick and big he is. Even his head coach was surprised by Kessler's blocks, describing them as "crazy." Kessler's defensive reputation has grown, resulting in fewer foul calls against him. Kessler believes that referees are now more familiar with his style of play and are allowing him to play more freely.
