The Flood Preparation Committee has been meeting weekly since February, and the city's response plan is ready, according to city officials. Provo Mayor Michelle Kaufusi stated that expert crews are preparing potential flood areas and equipped with sandbags and necessary equipment to respond quickly. The public works department filled sandbags that will be loaded onto pallets for the city to use during flooding. Volunteer organizations are scheduled to fill more sandbags for the city next week. The city is concerned about debris in the Provo River and is clearing dead logs, gravel, and sand to maximize water flow. The Flood Preparation Committee is monitoring Slate Canyon, Rock Canyon, Little Rock Canyon, and other areas of concern for flooding. The city is coordinating with internal and external agencies, identifying areas with the biggest flood risk, and developing routes to divert water to protect residents and homes. Provo residents can pick up empty sandbags for use around their property at the public works building, which has sand available for filling.
